Dance Marathon began in 1973 at Penn State University, when students planned an event to raise money for their university’s Hershey Medical Center. A few years later, in 1977, the idea caught on at Indiana University, and students planned their first dance marathon, a fundraiser benefiting Riley Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network, in honor of Ryan White. Since then, Dance Marathon has become a movement at over 150 high schools and universities across the country, all raising money for their local Children’s Miracle Network hospital. Each year, Dance Marathons across the country bring their students together to promote awareness for their local children’s hospital, interact with the hospital patients and survivors, as well as celebrate fundraising for that year!
Dance Marathon at NC State University was established in 2012, and raised over 60 thousand dollars in it’s first year. We expect huge growth in the coming years, and hope to become the biggest charity event on campus! DMNCSU will make appearances at every major university function, registering dancers and recruiting students to the cause.
